Exciting developments are underway at the Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones (IFT) of Mexico! On December 1, 2023, IFT opened two public consultations on the following preliminary draft technical provisions:
- IFT-016-2023: Low Power Radiocommunication Devices
- This provision pertains to devices utilizing frequency bands within the radio spectrum range of 30 MHz to 3 GHz. It sets specifications, limits, and test methods for low-power radio communication devices, excluding those operating in allocated frequencies for distress, security, search and rescue, or classified as protected spectrum. Certification Bodies and Testing Labs may seek accreditation for conformity evaluation, with testing, a Certificate of Conformity (CoC), and Certificate of Homologation (CoH) potentially required.
- IFT-017-2023: Radiocommunication Systems Using Wireless Access
- This provision addresses radiocommunication equipment using digital modulation techniques and operating in specific frequency bands, including those for Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E devices. The draft establishes minimum specifications, test methods, and conformity assessment procedures. Compliance entails testing, obtaining a CoC, and Type A CoH.
Both consultations provide stakeholders with an opportunity to offer feedback and insights until January 29, 2024. Don’t miss your chance to contribute to shaping Mexico’s telecommunications landscape!
