The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology in Indonesia has taken a significant stride towards establishing comprehensive Technical Standards for Telecommunication Equipment and Mobile Telecommunication Equipment, particularly focusing on Long Term Evolution (LTE) and International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT) Technology Standards. This initiative is aligned with the legal framework outlined in Law Number 30 of 2014 concerning Government Administration.
To ensure transparency and inclusivity in this regulatory endeavor, the Ministry has released the Draft Decree of the Minister of Communication and Information. This decree serves as a pivotal reference point for the testing and certification of telecommunications equipment within the country.
The primary objectives of this draft decree encompass the regulation of several critical aspects. These include defining technical standards for subscriber stations, base stations, and repeaters based on LTE technology standards. Additionally, the decree will establish technical standards for equipment utilizing IMT-2020 technology across various frequency ranges.
Moreover, the decree will mandate that all telecommunications equipment operating within Indonesian borders possess a unique International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number. Furthermore, it stipulates that such equipment must meet a minimum domestic component level of 35%, promoting local manufacturing and industry development.
This regulatory development significantly impacts the telecommunications landscape in Indonesia. Notably, it will affect the type approval process, spectrum allocation, and import regulations. Furthermore, it sets stringent standards that will affect all devices utilizing LTE and 5G technologies.
The release of this draft decree underscores Indonesia’s commitment to fostering a robust and standardized telecommunications ecosystem. By establishing clear guidelines and standards, the government aims to facilitate technological advancement while ensuring compliance and quality assurance across the industry.
