The Mexican Institute of Telecommunications (IFT) initiates a Public Consultation on June 23rd, 2023, unveiling the Preliminary Project related to Technical Disposition IFT-011-2022 Part 3, concerning the Cellular Broadcast System for Emergency Alerts.
The primary objective of this project is to adapt technical specifications and testing methods. The proposed changes under consultation are as follows:
– Introduction of an alternate test method enabling the activation of Alert Message test channels in Spanish via configuration menu, bypassing MMI commands. Additionally, consideration is given to integrating this functionality with the existing IPAWS system and mobile equipment with integrated button functionality configuration.
– Discussion on amending requirements for visual verification of Alert Message content copying functionality, proposing a more flexible test method removing restrictions on copying content.
While Type Approval, spectrum allocation, and imports remain unaffected, this consultation directly impacts Mobile Terminal Equipment (Smartphones) adhering to the standards outlined in DT IFT-011 Part 3: 2022. Stay engaged and provide input to shape the future of emergency alert systems in Mexico.
