The Ministry of Communication and Informatics in Indonesia recently issued Regulation No. 2 of 2023, aimed at updating regulations concerning the utilization of radio frequency spectrum based on class permits. This regulatory update replaces the previous Regulation No. 1 of 2019 to align with technological advancements, optimize spectrum usage, and allocate additional spectrum based on class permits.
The regulation focuses on class permits granted to various groups of Telecommunications Equipment, including RLANs, LPWAN, SRD, Class Permit Based BMI, and PMR. Each category is allocated specific frequency bands, as detailed within the regulation.
Notably, radio frequency spectrum users operating outdoors may now be subject to registration obligations based on their class permits. However, the impact on Type Approval, spectrum allocation, imports, and product standards remains unchanged.
This regulatory update underscores Indonesia’s commitment to adapting to evolving technological landscapes while ensuring efficient and organized spectrum utilization. Stakeholders within the telecom industry are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the updated regulations to ensure compliance and effective operation within the Indonesian market.
