Following extensive public consultation and feedback, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) announced the publication of the revised Low Interference Potential Devices Class Licence (LIPD) on May 23rd.

The key outcomes of the LIPD Class License update are as follows:

1. Increased Power Limits and Outdoor Operation: Devices operating within the 5150–5250 MHz band are now permitted to operate at higher power levels, with the added flexibility of outdoor usage.

2. Definition of ‘Indoors’: The inclusion of a clear definition for ‘indoors’ provides clarity regarding the operational context for LIPD devices.

3. Implementation of Out-of-Band Emission Limits: Radio Local Area Network (RLAN) devices operating in the lower 6 GHz band are now subject to out-of-band emission limits, ensuring compliance with specified standards.

These updates aim to enhance the regulatory framework governing low interference potential devices, ensuring alignment with technological advancements and industry requirements. Importantly, while no changes affect Type Approval processes or import regulations, the spectrum landscape sees notable alterations in output power limits and emission standards.

Stakeholders operating within the realm of Wi-Fi devices and related technologies are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the updated LIPD Class License Variation 2023 (No. 2) to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and promote responsible spectrum utilization.
