The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of Oman issued a directive on April 18, 2023, pertaining to IoT devices utilizing international roaming SIM cards. This directive is designed to regulate international roaming for IoT devices, bolster security measures, and safeguard personal data.

Under the directive, IoT devices may access international roaming services provided they operate temporarily using SIM/E-SIM cards from licensed providers. However, the usage of international roaming SIM cards in Oman’s local networks is limited to a maximum of 90 days. To extend this timeframe beyond 90 days, providers or importers of IoT devices can request an exception from the TRA.
