The Telecommunications Regulation Commission (TRC) of Jordan previously held a public consultation on draft instructions for the type approval of telecommunications devices. The new regulation is expected soon and will include the following updates:

  • Reducing certificate validity from 3 years to 1 year.
  • Allowing labels to be placed on the outer package and/or the device.
  • Permitting both manual and electronic labels, including in user manuals or operating systems if affixing on the device/package is difficult.
  • Requiring test reports from ILAC-accredited labs valid for telecommunications product testing.
  • Requiring a Modification Application if brand, product description, manufacturer, or certificate holder changes.
  • Requiring a new application if Technical Specifications, Requirements, or Standards for the approved product change.
  • Allowing TRC to dispose of test samples not retrieved within 1 month of approval or rejection.
  • Allowing family approval for minor differences like color or packaging if proof is provided.
  • Extending lead time from 10 to 20 working days.
  • Adding the possibility of renewal 3 months before certificate expiration, with renewed validity of 1 year from previous expiration.
  • Including exemptions for certain devices: printers, copiers, monitors without high-power radio function; short-range remote controls using infrared; electronic parts without radio function; SRDs supporting only Bluetooth; satellite TV receivers; laptops and desktops; wireless mice and keyboards.
