The Eswatini Communications Commission (ESCCOM) issued General Notice 12/2024, proposing the phase-out of 2G and 3G mobile networks in Eswatini. The plan targets retiring 2G technology by December 31, 2026, and 3G technology by December 31, 2028, while also prohibiting the import and type approval of 2G-only and 3G-only devices into Eswatini by December 31, 2024.
The proposal is open for public comments until December 9, 2024.
