The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) issued Guidelines on January 9, 2024, for implementing Parallel Testing for products covered under the Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirements of Compulsory Registration) Order, 2021. Previously part of a pilot project, these Guidelines are now part of a Permanent Scheme, which includes the following updates:
- The voluntary Guidelines have been expanded to cover all Electronics and IT notified products under the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS).
- Components and main products will undergo parallel testing at laboratories, with BIS registering the components sequentially.
Manufacturers must promptly update the CCL after product registration with BIS to ensure that components used have the relevant registration (R-no.).
