The Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones (IFETEL) of Mexico previously conducted a public consultation on Draft Guidelines for using the IFT Seal of the Federal Institute of Telecommunications on products, equipment, devices, or apparatus approved for telecommunications or broadcasting. IFETEL officially released the Guidelines on December 26, 2023, in the Diario Oficial de la Federación (DOF). Key points of the new Guidelines include:

  • Holders of Certificates of Homologation, as well as importers and subsidiaries, must display the IFT Seal on the marking or labeling of telecommunications or broadcasting devices.
  • The IFT Seal must be printed in 100% black or negative black and be clearly visible and legible without magnification.
  • Approved products must include the prefix “IFT” along with the Certificate of Homologation number in addition to the IFT Seal.
  • The IFT Seal may only be used while the Certificate of Homologation for approved products remains valid.
  • Products approved or in the approval process before the Guidelines take effect are exempt from mandatory IFT Seal use and will continue under their existing Certificates of Homologation.
  • The Guidelines will take effect 180 business days after publication in the DOF, on September 9, 2024.
