The Direktorat Jenderal Sumber Daya dan Perangkat Pos dan Informatika (SDPPI) previously announced a timeline for Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) testing in August 2023. The Kementrian Komunikasi dan Informatika (KOMINFO) of Indonesia published Kepmen KOMINFO No. 177 Tahun 2024 on March 7, 2024, regarding SAR limits for cellular phones and tablet computers. Key points of the decision include:
- SAR limits are established for mobile phones and tablet devices.
- Devices are defined as telecommunications equipment used within 20 cm of the body with radiated transmit power over 20 mW.
- SAR limits for the head take effect on April 1, 2024.
- SAR limits for the torso and limbs take effect on August 1, 2024.
- Certificate applications submitted after the effective dates must include a SAR test report.
- SAR testing must be conducted in local laboratories; currently, only the SDPPI lab, BBPPT, supports SAR testing.
