Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) has officially introduced a new technical standard under Notice No. 2025-56, issued on November 5, 2025, focusing on charging and data transmission methods for broadcasting and communication equipment, including mobile and smart devices.

Under this regulation, any device that charges via a wired connection or supports both wired charging and data transfer must be equipped with a USB Type-C receptacle connector. The requirement applies to a wide range of consumer electronics, such as:

  • Mobile phones
  • Tablets
  • Laptops
  • Digital cameras
  • Headphones and headsets
  • Earphones
  • Portable speakers
  • Portable video game consoles
  • E-book readers
  • Keyboards and mice
  • Portable navigation devices

MSIT has stated that the necessity and effectiveness of this Notice will be reviewed every three years to ensure continued relevance. The regulation will officially take effect one year after promulgation, meaning compliance will be mandatory from November 5, 2026 onward.

This move aligns Korea with global efforts to standardize charging interfaces, reduce electronic waste, and enhance user convenience across devices.
