Saudi Arabia is moving ahead with a nationwide requirement for USB Type-C ports, as confirmed by the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO). The rollout will take place in two phases, starting in early 2026.

From January 1, 2026, the new requirement will apply to a wide range of consumer devices, including mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, e-readers, portable gaming consoles, headphones and earphones, speakers, keyboards, mice, portable navigation systems, wireless routers, and other portable audio equipment.

A second phase will follow on April 1, 2026, extending the USB Type-C mandate to portable computers.

Importers of the affected products are advised to ensure compliance with SASO IEC 62680-1-2:2023 and SASO IEC 62680-1-3:2023 when applying for new IECEE certificates. To prevent certificate suspension, valid certification must be supported by test reports from accredited laboratories and submitted to SASO before January 1, 2026.
