BOCRA has released comprehensive guidelines detailing the implementation of type approval regulations outlined in the Communications Regulatory Authority Regulations, 2022 (CRA Regulations). These guidelines formalize the procedures for obtaining type approval, as specified in Part V of the CRA Regulations, 2022.
The scope of type approval covers all telecommunications terminal equipment and radio equipment, including broadcast equipment and Postal Equipment.
The guidelines specify standards to be met, including EN 55022 or CISPR 22 for radio disturbance characteristics, EN 55024 or CISPR 24 for immunity characteristics, ACIF/ACA S0016 section 5.3 & 5.5 for requirements concerning customer equipment, and EIA/TIA-612 for electrical characteristics at data signalling rates up to 52 Mbit/s.
This update impacts the type approval process for telecommunications and radio equipment in Botswana, without affecting spectrum allocations or imports.
