ANATEL has issued Office Letter 464/2023 to provide clarity and updates regarding the IPv6 requirements outlined in Act 7971, enacted on June 22nd, 2023.
Effective from January 8th, 2024, 185 days after its publication, Act 7971 supersedes previous IPv6 requirements listed in the technical requirements for telecom products – category 1 list.
Recognizing the importance of a seamless transition, ANATEL has implemented measures to mitigate potential disruptions. While the testing procedures under Act 7971 mirror those of the previous requirements for evaluating the IPv6 protocol in telecom products, the agency has extended a transitional period. National laboratories accredited under the previous requirements are permitted to conduct testing according to the new guidelines for a period of one year, until they update their formal accreditation.
This proactive approach ensures continuity in testing procedures while facilitating compliance with the updated regulations. Although these changes may impact type approval and market access requirements, they signify Brazil’s commitment to advancing technological standards in the telecommunications sector, thereby enhancing efficiency and innovation.
