The Brazilian Telecommunications Agency, ANATEL, has initiated a public consultation to revise the existing electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements for product conformity evaluation. This consultation seeks to achieve several key objectives:
1. Reevaluate the scope of current requirements.
2. Assess the compatibility of existing test methods with the latest versions of international standards from organizations like the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
3. Consider the necessity of conducting radiated immunity and radiated emission tests covering frequencies up to 6 GHz.
4. Update the definitions for Class A and Class B equipment.
5. Revise test procedures for various setups, including radiated immunity tests, disturbance tests, and immunity against electromagnetic disturbances.
6. Propose test methods and requirements for embedded equipment used in vehicles.
7. Review decision criteria for emission tests.
8. Propose a method for evaluating EMC tests on equipment that is not yet finished, such as modules.
Stakeholders are invited to contribute to this consultation until April 29th, 2023. While this initiative does not directly impact type approval, spectrum allocation, or imports, it will replace the current EMC requirement document (Act 1120) and affect all types of equipment subject to EMC testing. Stay tuned for updates on these significant revisions to EMC standards in Brazil.
