The Egyptian National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) recently revamped its Type Approval Procedure, aiming to streamline the application process and simplify scheme selection for manufacturers. This update introduces three categories for countries and consolidates Type Approval schemes into three, down from four in the previous version.

The new scheme chart offers manufacturers greater flexibility, particularly for those considering establishing factories in Egypt. Manufacturers can now opt for either the Light or Intermediate schemes based on their qualifications.

Simultaneously, NTRA has expanded its list of Accredited Labs, notably increasing the number of Intermediate Scheme labs. The updated conditions present opportunities for numerous labs to join the list, enhancing testing capabilities and facilitating the Type Approval process.

To ensure smooth import processes and mitigate risks of rejection at customs, NTRA urges manufacturers to seek Type Approval before entering the country. This proactive approach safeguards against delays and potential complications, preserving sales commitments and market access.

While the Type Approval procedure undergoes significant changes impacting manufacturers, spectrum allocation remains unaffected. However, non-compliance with Type Approval regulations could result in import delays or rejection at ports of entry, emphasizing the importance of adherence to NTRA guidelines.
