El Salvador marks a significant milestone with the release of resolution T-0408-2023 by the General Superintendence of Electricity and Telecommunications on July 9th. This resolution updates the National Frequency Allocation Table (CNAF), dedicating a full band of 6GHz for unlicensed usage, specifically for Wi-Fi wireless technology.
Under resolution T-0408-2023, the allocated spectrum (5925 – 7125MHz) is reserved for low-power and limited indoor devices, accompanied by specific technical guidelines:
– Maximum P.I.R.E: 30dBm with Spectral Density Maximum: 5dBm/MHz for access devices.
– Maximum P.I.R.E: 24dBm with Spectral Density Maximum: -1dBm/MHz for client devices.
– Access devices must be directly powered from commercial electrical power, prohibiting the use of batteries.
While Type Approval remains unaffected, the spectrum’s impact is significant, opening up opportunities for Wi-Fi applications specifically tailored for low-power devices in indoor areas. Import regulations remain unchanged, and no new standards are introduced. However, products ranging from network infrastructure devices to consumer electronics are poised to benefit from this progressive initiative in El Salvador’s telecommunications landscape.
