The Directorate-General for Trade and Economic Security of the European Commission announced on August 21, 2025, that the European Union and the United States have reached a Framework Agreement on Reciprocal, Fair, and Balanced Trade. Under Item 13 of the agreement, the EU confirms that US conformity assessment bodies may be designated as Notified Bodies under the Sectoral Annex for Telecommunications Equipment to the 1998 Mutual Recognition Agreement. These bodies will be authorized to perform essential requirement tasks, including cybersecurity, as defined in the Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU. Additionally, both parties will work toward a mutual recognition agreement on cybersecurity.
