The Instituto Federal de Telecomunicaciones (IFETEL) announced on December 16, 2024, that the 64–71 GHz frequency band is now classified as free spectrum, usable without a concession or authorization from IFETEL. Devices, equipment, or products operating in this band must comply with Title Thirteen of the Federal Telecommunications and Broadcasting Law and other applicable regulations, and are prohibited for satellite use. These devices and radiocommunication systems must also follow the technical operating conditions specified in Annex 1 of the Agreement published in the Diario Oficial de la Federación (DOF), effective December 18, 2024. Under current IFETEL rules, homologation requires the Type B or Type C process with a “perito review.” Updated requirements will be communicated once the new regulatory approval process is clarified.
