The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) of Qatar announced on August 19, 2024, that 3G mobile services will be discontinued by December 31, 2025, to retire legacy technologies and free up spectrum for 4G/LTE and 5G networks. The CRA has also prohibited the import of mobile phones that support only 2G or 3G. Devices compatible with 4G/VoLTE may still be imported if they meet the required standards and hold a CRA type approval certificate.
