The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) and the Communications, Space & Technology Commission (CST) of Saudi Arabia announced on August 7, 2023, the mandatory plan to standardize charging ports for mobile phones and electronic devices. Starting in 2025, charging ports will be standardized to USB Type-C to reduce e-waste and enhance user experience. The draft decision is divided into two phases:

  • Phase 1, starting January 1, 2025, covers mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, e-readers, portable video game devices, headphones, earphones, amplifiers, tablets, computer mice, portable navigation systems, portable speakers, and wireless routers.
  • Phase 2, starting April 1, 2026, covers laptop computers.
