On May 12th, 2023, The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) of Singapore announced its plans to allocate additional radio frequency spectrum to enhance advanced Wi-Fi connectivity within the country. This initiative includes the allocation of 500 MHz of spectrum in the 6 GHz band specifically for Wi-Fi usage, spanning from 5,925 to 6,425 MHz.
IMDA’s objective is to cater to the growing demand for bandwidth-intensive and low-latency applications, ensuring a seamless transition between different connectivity options for end-users across Singapore.
The Agency intends to revise its regulations to officially assign the 5,925 MHz – 6,425 MHz radio frequency spectrum for Wi-Fi use in Singapore. Additionally, it anticipates the availability of Wi-Fi 6E-enabled equipment and devices in the Singapore market by the third quarter of 2023.
