The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition has issued Notice No. 2030 of 2023, inviting public participation in the review of draft national standards. This initiative aims to gather insights and feedback from stakeholders regarding proposed standards crucial for various sectors.

Among the draft standards open for consultation are:

  • SATR 61000-4-1 Ed 1: Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) – Part 4-1: Testing and measurement techniques.
  • SANS 60086-2 Ed 8: Primary batteries – Part 2: Physical and electrical specifications.
  • SANS 60335-1:2023 Ed 4: Household and similar electrical appliances – Safety – Part 1: General requirements.

Interested parties are encouraged to provide comments and suggestions on these draft standards by Thursday, November 2, 2023.

While this public consultation does not directly impact type approval processes, spectrum allocations, or imports, it holds significant importance in shaping national standards across various industries. The standards under review encompass a wide range of products and technologies, including batteries, cybersecurity, household appliances, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).

By soliciting input from stakeholders, the government aims to ensure that the proposed standards are comprehensive, effective, and aligned with industry needs. This collaborative approach underscores South Africa’s commitment to fostering a regulatory environment conducive to innovation, safety, and quality assurance in product manufacturing and usage.
