In a proactive move towards regulatory enhancement, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TDRA) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has initiated two crucial public consultations, commencing on May 22nd.

The first consultation pertains to Ultra Wide Band (UWB) and Short Range Devices (SRD), addressing proposed changes in technical conditions for existing UWB and SRD bands, alongside the addition of potential operating bands. This includes refining definitions of key terms to ensure clarity and coherence within the regulations.

The second consultation focuses on Services Ancillary to Broadcast Production, Program Making & Special Events (PMSE), aiming to define technical conditions for wireless equipment usage in these contexts. Similarly, this consultation seeks to enhance the clarity of fundamental terminology to facilitate understanding and compliance.

Spectrum allocation stands as a significant impact, particularly with the addition of bands for various applications such as inductive, short-range devices, and radiodetermination. While Type Approval and import procedures remain unaffected, adherence to revised standards outlined in TDRA Regulations is imperative, particularly for telecom equipment manufacturers.

This initiative underscores the TDRA’s commitment to fostering regulatory transparency and stakeholder engagement, ensuring that UAE’s telecommunications landscape remains conducive to innovation and development.
