On June 9, 2023, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) launched a public consultation on spectrum sharing models for the 42–42.5 GHz frequency band. The consultation outlines three shared licensing approaches:

  • Nationwide non-exclusive licensing – Licensees coordinate specific deployment sites through a third-party database.
  • Site-based licensing – Licensees submit applications directly to the FCC for deployment sites.
  • Technology-based sensing – Operators use designated technologies to prevent harmful interference with each other.
